Founder and Attorney at Law

Charles M Britt III

Charlie grew up in rural Manatee County and has deep roots within the community on both sides of his family. Charlie went to local elementary and middle schools and graduated from Palmetto High School in the top 10% of his class. Charlie played varsity football, baseball, track and field and basketball while in high school. After high school, Charlie received a football scholarship to play at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. There he played under Coach Jerry Moore and was fortunate to play on a Southern Conference championship team and participate in the NCAA national playoffs.

After attending Appalachian State, Charlie returned home and began working at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office at the age of 20.  He often jokes that he wasn't even old enough to purchase his own firearm when he joined the force.  His law enforcement experience at the Manatee County Sheriff's Office was extensive and diverse.  Highlights include his work as a Detective in the Cobra Task Force and Gang Investigations Unit, Habitual Offender Unit, and later his work as a special agent in the Delta Narcotics Task Force, the DEA OCDETF Task Force and the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force. Following his graduation with a Bachelor's degree in Criminology from the University of South Florida, Charlie accepted a Special Agent position at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

Charlie's experience while working as an FDLE Special Agent included the investigation of multi – jurisdictional violent crimes, major international and domestic narcotics organizations, traditional and non-traditional organized crime, public corruption and major economic crime or fraud. He presented cases for prosecution to local state attorneys, United States Attorney’s and federal grand juries.  Charlie was the primary undercover officer in major narcotics investigations as well as many other undercover operations. Charlie initiated, developed and analyzed intelligence information for intra-agency and outside agency use. He conducted criminal and civil investigations for use in Racketeering Influenced and Corrupt Organization (RICO) cases. He was responsible for the supervision and implementation of mobile and fixed surveillance and wiretaps. Throughout his career as a law enforcement officer, Charlie recruited and handled multiple confidential informants, was responsible for the execution of high and low risk search and arrest warrants and worked multiple undercover operations investigating drugs, homicides, and terrorism.  In addition, he was responsible for providing physical protection to the Governor, his family and visiting dignitaries.

It was after the birth of his second daughter that Charlie decided he wanted to fulfill his lifelong desire and pursue a law degree.  As it turns out, his experience as a law enforcement officer would be invaluable in his pursuit of a career as an attorney.  While in law school, Charlie was a senior editor of law review and completed stints as a law clerk at the Third District Court of Appeals and the Economic and Internet Crimes Division at the State Attorney's Office in Miami. He graduated with honors (Cum Laude) from St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami and was sworn into the bar in November of the same year.

Charlie founded his own private, solo, law practice immediately after law school. Charlie represents clients for all types of criminal matters ranging from minor traffic offenses to murder.  He has litigated well over five-hundred (500) federal and state cases and has had numerous federal and state trials. The results of many of his cases can be found on the results page of our website. Charlie maintains close, working relationships with several Judges, Assistant State Attorneys and Assistant United States Attorneys, across multiple circuits.  He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, as well as other criminal defense organizations. Charlie is admitted to practice in the Florida Supreme Court, the Middle District of Florida, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.
